Metamorphosis

One of the most significant projects in my college career was my study of the three life stages of the death's-head hawkmoth. This remarkable creature symbolizes transformation and the cycles of life and death. I began with a pencil drawing, moved to ink , and then carved it into a copper plate for printing.

The death's-head hawkmoth, with its distinctive skull-like pattern, evokes themes of mortality and rebirth. Copper plate printing, a technique dating back to the 15th century, allows for incredible detail, enhancing both my technical skills and appreciation for art's historical processes. You can see my result when you scroll down because I was lucky enough to use my ink liner drawing as a motive for my first ever engraving.
